Essay 12—UNDER REPRESENTED

The founders understood a fundamental maxim about good government…the people must be represented or the most extreme and unscrupulous people will dominate the system. They thought that it should be 1 representative to every 30,000 people. Today that number is 1 to 820,000 people. Is it a wonder that Washington is a mess and our voices feel more diminished than ever?

Perhaps it’s time to expand the House to give the people their voices back.
